St. George’s Church is situated in the city of Madaba, which is approximately 30 kilometers southwest of the capital city, Amman. The church is most famous for housing the Madaba Mosaic Map, one of the most well-preserved and significant ancient mosaic maps in the world.
It is considered one of the oldest churches in Jordan. It was constructed in the 19th century on the ruins of a much earlier Byzantine church. It is a popular tourist attraction in Madaba, drawing visitors from all over the world who come to see the Madaba Mosaic Map and appreciate the historical and artistic significance of the site.
